Welcome
How many trips do you take a season?

We typically run five trips up to Mammoth starting with a drive-up in December.  Then we have one bus trip a month starting with January.

What's the drive-up trip like?

With December drive-up trip, the club only provides for the condos.  It's a "share the cost" trip; meaning that the cost of the condos are split among the people who are go.

We provide this trip to allow members to get an early start on the season.

What's a typical bus trip like?

On Friday, we meet in front of the Van Nuys Flyaway bus station at 5:30p.  The bus departs at 6:00p.

We get into Mammoth around 11:30p.

Saturday morning, we head up to Main Lodge at 8:00a on the bus and come back down around 4:30p.  That night we have a dinner party in one of the condos.  Sunday morning at 8:00a, we load our luggage back onto the bus and go back up to Main Lodge, ski until 4:00p and then head directly back to the Valley.  We get back in around 10:00p or so.  On the ride up to and back from Mammoth, the club provides a 'box lunch' (e.g. sandwiches) for dinner.

In Mammoth, we stay in condo units, so there is a kitchen in each of the units.  The kitchens have all the utensils (i.e. refrigerator, microwave, stove, pots, pans, cups, plates, silverware) that you would need to prep a meal.  The condo management company also provides towels, soap, bed linens.  So you don't need to bring anything you wouldn’t bring to a hotel.

The condos are close to the Mammoth Lakes Red bus line.  So for those who like to sleep in or get back to the condos early, the can opt to use the local bus system.

The trip cost includes lodging, the box lunches to and from Mammoth, the Saturday night dinner, beverages (both alcoholic (e.g., wine, beer, margaritas ) and non- (e.g. soda and bottled water)), and the bus ride to/from Mammoth.  Individuals cover the cost of breakfast, lunch and lift tickets.

Do you run any other ski trips?

We typically take a longer trip to some other ski destination (e.g. Park City, Steamboat) once a year.    These trips can be as long as four days up to a full week.

Are there any other club activites?

Aside for skiing, we do have other events.  During the summer we have picnics.  Have movie nights, bike rides and cultural events.

What's the average average member like?
A typical member tends to be a "baby boomer".   They tend to be a working professional ( e.g.: small business owners, building contractors, engineers, teachers, lawyers and doctors.)

What's are those big radar dishes near Bishop for?

If you've ever driven north on 395 toward Bishop, you've probably seen those big dishes.  We've had a lot of guesses about them on the bus trips.   After doing a little research, the mystery has been solved.  The big dishes are part of the Owens Valley Radio Observatory.  See http://www.ovro.caltech.edu/
